NOC to produce interactive TV industry guide

While the NOC continues to work as part of the sub group working on the MEF’s Participation TV (P-TV) guide, we have noted that this initiative is restricted to looking at P-TV services in the UK, paid for on mobile handsets only. This guide looks at the responsibilities of all parties involved in this side of the telecoms sector, and recommends good practice guidelines and how to deal with problems.

However, NOC is putting together its own interactive TV industry guide, which will provide clarity on all key elements for any company in the interactive TV space, or who are looking to enter this market.

The NOC interactive TV industry guide will cover P-TV services paid on both fixed and mobile phones. It is likely to take between three and six months to put together and will be published as an NOC industry document focusing on themes such as:

  • Capacity – size of traffic networks can carry
  • Pricing clarity – Tariff transparency
  • Mid Event Monitoring
  • Independent Verification
  • Latency in the network

NOC will be discussing the interactive TV industry guide with Trevor Barnes of Ofcom later this month, to highlight what the industry is doing to self regulate, and also to the Gambling Commission who are bringing out their own guidelines.
