NOC coordinates industry solution to lack of tariff transparency
NOC is at the forefront of attempts to re-build consumer trust in the industry and is therefore working on an initiative aimed at creating clarity over pricing transparency for 09x numbers. Having already met with Ofcom to discuss the matter last month, there are serious concerns over this issue.
Ofcom fully supports the NOC initiative and has encouraged the industry to come up with a workable solution before regulation is imposed. NOC has contacted all MNOs and is also talking to its members about technical feasibility. Feedback from MNOs has generally been very supportive with some wishing to act on this issue now before the Ofcom PRS Scope Review in November/December. However, others have stated they wish to wait the outcome of the Ofcom Review. NOC feels this will be too late to affect any changes within the industry and stave off further regulation.
“This is what the industry needs to restore consumer trust which is NOC’s paramount objective at present,” says Roy Ellyatt, Chairman of the NOC.
NOC is arranging individual meetings with MNOs and is also considering a roundtable with all concerned, together with representation from Ofcom, to discuss this matter. |
