Tony Couch, Head of Media, Opal Telecom |
Tony Couch is the Head of Media for Opal Telecom which is part of the FTSE 100 Carphone Warehouse Group. His experience in this industry, from a fixed line telco perspective, is second to none. In the late 90's, whilst at Norweb Communications, he was one of the founder members of the "Opt-out" group which challenged and overcame a PRS opt-in threat. He joined Opal Telecom in 1999 and a year later was nominated by the other carriers to the Icstis Industry Committee to represent their interests with the regulator (now PhonePayPlus). During the "Trojan dialler scam" of 2004, Tony was very active and vocal in persuading many telcos to take more proactive action by barring problematic numbers early.Without such action the industry was likely to receive far more draconian measures by politicians to protect their constituents. He is currently involved in the working group created to provide pricing transparency to callers."The paying for the price stated on a tin of beans analogy is too simple. In the PRS shop, the cost of the tin of beans is dependant upon which till you decide to pay at. Even then you may still not know the cost of the beans until your credit card bill arrives weeks later!" Tony is married and has two young children. |
